Trading Euphemisms In The Dark

woman-683334

Trading euphemisms in the dark
Blankets piled high on the bed
Finding warmth between ourselves
Love inhabits where fear can’t tread
Sheets getting tangled in our bodies
Chorus of breathing getting thick
Cherishing & celebrating each moment
Grateful she still let’s me dip my wick

Drinking Rum On A Dead Woman’s Chest

implied-1507062.jpg

Drinking rum on a dead woman’s chest

Callin’ me a bloody castaway

Pinkerton’s got me pinned down

Her love will never last past today

Flirting with the cigarette girl

Danced on my heart, now I’m pierced

I aim to stand tall, down to the last drop

Her beauty was deliberate & fierce

Always looking for something between

Usually a billfold, other times the sheets

She wanted the last of the big time spenders

Not often won, though seldom beat

Differentiated Between All Your Loves

woman-1043030.jpg

Differentiated between all your loves
The former still intense among
Compounding the delicate feelings
Not wishing to be tattered or strung
We cannot control which way to flow
We merely have always tried our best
These are our most pure intentions
Injured since you left me out West

Knowing There’s Life Out There

Knowing there’s life out there
Between the barren branches
Tying your coat a little tighter
To fend off the avalanches
Winter will try to kill you
You must fight to see the Spring
Warm each other under sheets
Flip over & let me do my thing

Most Guys

person-802090.jpg

Most guys

Will tell as many lies

As it takes to get between your thighs

But that’s not my goal

I’m just trying to find something to fill this hole

That has been left in my soul

*this is one of the first poems I can remember writing. I believe it goes back to ’94 or ’95.

You’re Cold, Calculated & Good-Looking

bucharest-87186

You’re cold, calculated & good-looking

Left behind your classmates long ago

Wandering the bottom of telegraph hill

Boys of the varsity crew dutifully row

Looking down through expensive lenses

Never stooping below your vertical reach

Self-confidence not what you reveal

Truth of the matter, aren’t you a peach

Through all these delicate years

I’m still here, feeling sorry for you

Hiding in this city is not an escape

An anonymous life not so fresh & new

Skirting this issue you may complete

Being breezy like a windless chime

Slipping just between your fingers

This just must not be the time
