I Need Coffee

I need coffee
Dressed in my finest tartan
Words stumble in early hours
Another weary day just startin’
I need to flex my wrist
Stretch-out my pen – longhand
Meld my thoughts into the paper
Convince\Hope you understand

I’m Tired, Weary, Fatigued, However You Want To Call It

I’m tired, weary, fatigued, however you want to call it
This world is tearing itself apart, with no end in sight
Neighbors can’t stand the appearance of each other
If we don’t swerve, we’re all going to face the fiery night
Reject hate, reject them, reject the world’s system
I don’t care if kindness long ago went out of fashion
Don’t accept your options, make your own way
We need return to art, return to love & compassion
‘They’ are anyone who’ll tell you we can’t survive
Without stooping down to unconscionable degrees
Rebel, refuse & reclaim enlightenment & love
Lead ourselves away from their dysfunctional societies
God reserves a place in Hell for those who spout hate
Whether you believe in Christ or what Buddha taught
Love doesn’t see the differences between us
We can do better; a peaceful way must be sought
Politicians are no more than door to door salesmen
Fraudulent purveyors of the American dreamscape
But we, the silent underground, emerging each day
Fed up with their vision, proof that heroes don’t wear capes

Smelling Coffee Long Before

Smelling coffee long before
These tired eyes were ever meant to open
Dreading wakin’ and meetin’ people
No time like now, so here’s to hopin’
The day started & it’s past time to rise
One foot out & eventually the other leg
I’m going to need more of this magic juice
I feel society comin’ at me like the damn plague

There’s So Much Talk Of Being Wild

There’s so much talk of being wild
Like there’s a constant harness holding us back
But its just an illusion for others to see
You’re choosing to embrace all that you lack
These false pretenses are keeping you low
Images of a manicured life on your social media feed
Spending your days adjusting other’s perceptions
When these aren’t the actions of a happy life really needs
It’s difficult to perceive any truth as you focus the camera
The projection of crazy as you manipulate your reputation
Here’s a secret, the honest people don’t really care &
The real wild ones don’t bother with perfect punctuation

The Truth About Women’s Feet

Love wrapped around my mind like a shroud

Full of colors, spectrums & radiant splashes

Not a day without engulfing sunshine

Blinded by pantyhose & false eyelashes

I believed in the fairytale courtships

Sipping champagne from glass slippers

Lovely damsels in need of gentlemen

Revealed to be crude strumpet strippers

My soul could not take this detail

Where was my love with elegant class

Distraught in this new reality

Stuck on feet made for crystal glass

How could my dreams unravel so

This giving me pause to think

Now I understand the truth

That women’s feet actually stink

Hair Pulled Back, Eyes Down

Hair pulled back, eyes down
To avoid my affectionate stare
You cannot fathom my attraction
& you shoot me an annoyed glare
You don’t feel so pretty
You say you’re not ready for the day
But that never mattered to me
For I’ll continue to love you anyway

Picking Up My Girl Along The Way

Picking up my girl along the way
A short enough skirt that’ll surely tease
Soft tones upon the extinguished day
Wine & song that I might forever please
Snapping fingers & popping buttons
Ample latitude that I might play her fool
Admittedly; for her touch I’m a glutton
My own words reveal me to be still uncool
My ravishing mettle giving her just cause
Subtly picking up her heels and hemline
This rakish spirit providing her pause
Exposing joy & unadulterated sunshine

The World Keeps On Spinning Without Us

The world keeps on spinning without us
But it can’t stop me from loving you
Time & distance are temporary burdens
Until this deployment is finally through
I take each day as a stepping stone
Cherishing all that you’ll forever mean to me
Through the years we’ve survived strife
For this isn’t the first moment of adversity

A Clear Path To Happiness

A clear path to happiness
But where do we go from here
Tired & weary from toilsome tasks
Self loathing; the harbinger of fear
But there’s always the simple life
Cherishing each blessing bestowed
Smiling each morning with gratitude
Embracing & not dreading your load
Taking it up again with the sun
Another day to provide what you reap
Responsibility can be a small miracle
Reflecting the love that you keep

The Sun Entering The Bedroom

The sun entering the bedroom
She tasted like natural ginger root
Satisfied before she began her day
A short skirt & high heeled boots
A perfect way to leave her
A lovely morning with such a sight
I watched her until I couldn’t see
Everyone should be so lucky at first light
