I Like My Women Like I Like My Beer

I like my women like I like my beer
I like them all cold & tall
Derision in the waking hours
Looked upon as vulgar & banal
Searching for motivation
But not finding much success
You’ve set me aside lately
Vulnerable as you quietly undress
Piecing our world together
Trying to find reasons of some sort
Telling me we no longer exist
I’m trying to lend you love & support
Why do you want me to love you
If you’re going to deny me this way
Confused by your bingeing passion
& then a frozen shoulder that betrays

I’m Driving Down By The Beach

car-784887.jpg

I’m driving down by the beach
Radio tuned to Lana Del Rey
Trying to turn back the clock
Warm, salty air to celebrate the day
Looking for a moment to feel alive
To relive the trappings of youth
Ignoring the aches of aging
To deny the inescapable truth

Gnomes of Oracle

garden-gnome-379254

Many in the world will deny their existence
You will not find them in books which are historical
But hidden beneath the shrubs and trees
You might find the ‘Gnomes of Oracle’
They are kind little creatures
They go about their business, never doing any harm
Our small friends are rather shy
But that’s part of their charm
A vast system of caves dug deep into the earth
Winding tunnels descend down and begin to twist
In a central chamber beneath all that is known
Only a certain few are allowed, this they insist
Behind all else in the caverns below
The gnomes guard an old wooden box containing a treasure
Diamonds and gold cannot shine as bright as what’s inside
What the box holds is on what your life will be measured
Carved into the side of the box is a label, it simply reads ‘LOVE’
With nothing more valuable, nothing greater can be found
Once you have this, you need nothing else
This treasure is rare, but can be created from everything around

Those Beachside Fantasies

couple-677585

Those beachside fantasies

Her returning to my mind

A short-lived summer love

Tracking down what I won’t find

It was a patriotic stance

I believe it was July fourth

Still sorry she couldn’t stay

Time for her to head back north

Though we still had one night

She was beautiful as could be

Wrapped loosely in that flag

On the shores of a moonlit sea

I sit drinking Lonesometown brew

A strategically placed heartbreak

Try to give her the benefit of the doubt

Can’t deny all the pain left in her wake
