Setting Out Into The Big Wide Open

rock-731140_1920.jpg

Setting out into the big wide open
Dreaming of a greater world to hold
Emerge from your sleepiness
Expand your eyes to something so bold
I hear whispers you wish to be wild
Silly verbiage until you fully embrace
Cast off from this mundane existence
Evidence of love expressed within your face

Dreams Are Perfumed Illusions

architecture-2597556_1920.jpg

Dreams are perfumed illusions
Of what we don’t ordinarily see
Visions of alternate existences
Some of what should never be
But go ahead & embrace fantasy
Never lose your grip on what’s real
Convincing yourself to slowly stray
It’s not a truth, just because you can feel

Speaking Of A Love Across Centuries

people-2589817_1920.jpg

Speaking of a love across centuries
Time is no hindrance to our eternal fate
Passion, affection & a smile go a long way
When you’re kind, there’s no reason to retaliate
Finding a peace within your skin
The perfect location to finally & truly disrobe
Clocks of sand will never understand how I feel
For in doublestep, I’ve been forced to sail the globe
A true believer of what we could forever be
Eventually I’ll see my end, but it won’t be their doin’
Immune to the judgements & snide remarks
Hand in hand, I know our embrace protects us from ruin

Early Evenings With My Love

Early evenings with my love
Leading my girl by the hand
I’m quietly taking liberties
Her kisses; I’m unable to stand
I’m smitten with this kind lady
Color of lips that will never fade
Taking my heart in stride
Time & tide, falling to retrograde
Flicks of poetry with my tongue
Our embrace is a forbidden oasis
Wearing only sheets in bed
Flesh & mind; now & forever interlaces

The Molten Life-Sustaining Elixir

coffee-2586052_1920

The molten life-sustaining elixir
Down the gullet another cup is poured
Pitch black; the only way to drink
An awakening that just won’t be ignored
Stretching my arms into the morning
Reaching to take the sun in my embrace
Another sip; life will be mine
Success is surviving; sunshine on your face

There’s So Much Talk Of Being Wild

snow-2707017_1920.jpg

There’s so much talk of being wild
Like there’s a constant harness holding us back
But its just an illusion for others to see
You’re choosing to embrace all that you lack
These false pretenses are keeping you low
Images of a manicured life on your social media feed
Spending your days adjusting other’s perceptions
When these aren’t the actions of a happy life really needs
It’s difficult to perceive any truth as you focus the camera
The projection of crazy as you manipulate your reputation
Here’s a secret, the honest people don’t really care &
The real wild ones don’t bother with perfect punctuation

Have We Forgotten

snow-2952307_1920.jpg

Have we forgotten that we’re a rebellious people
Cashing checks under a drifter’s pseudonym
But together, we race across time, surviving
Embracing the unity of singing outlawed hymns
Lately, crying about a falsified history
Disillusioned, disappointed, disingenuous
I have no faith in movements and isms
They’re tinged with the superfluous
I believe in honor & service to the people
Treat each as an individual, never a group
Freedom & liberty distilled down to purest forms
Or else, we’ll see this hatred played out in an endless loop

Home. It Isn’t Some Abstract Concept

architecture-2602324_1920.jpg

Home. It isn’t some abstract concept
It is the loving embrace & happy tears
To return to the only ones who matter
A sigh of relief, time to expel all fear
The safety of my family’s precious arms
Another deployment forevermore sealed
I’m present; allowing us to move forward
& soon enough those pains will be healed

A Fine Suited Man With Terrible Inklings

kiss-1858088_1920.jpg

A fine suited man with terrible inklings
Hands on her shoulders; easy to confide
Pouring drinks & erasing her sadness
Falling by the wayside with time & tide
Beauty is merely a natural configuration
Each button gone, an uncontrollable urge
His intentions told with a silent tongue
Embraced & now they lovingly merge

Scars & Flaws Mark Our Character

IMG_1485.jpg

Scars & flaws mark our character
There are no monuments upon the sea
With no footprints in the waves
We cling to adventure in order to be free
But we all too soon grow old
The cold days along the Scottish coast
Searching for the proper port
To be comfortable with our dubious host
These days we’re looking to break even
I feel each of my years in my bones
I embrace my Saint Brendan’s medal
Within the night shift I can quietly atone
Remembering the light within her eyes
Reflecting up into the midnight’s moon
There’s a lot we might misconstrue
We’re stained, but maybe we can learn the tune
