False Attempts At The Old Scottish Jig

scotland-1987599_1920.jpg

False attempts at the old Scottish jig
Distant past lingering – nothing wise
She was never the heroine you always needed
Finally gave up after all those tries
Beauty’s eye was never truly blind
Having been lied to, left you distraught
Perpetual cycles now cold & mean
Never the quality you had always thought
Smile inward, you are the crowned victor
Playing their game with the cards dealt
Karma worms its way into a deserving soul
They’ll never know how your true love felt

Railroad Crossings Touch My Mind

train-2647352.jpg

Railroad crossings touch my mind
Worn jeans speckled with fading paint
Buddha found lying by the curb
Sorry ma’am, I’ve never been a saint
Life is an amazing gestation
There is nothing left to lose
Those stars have lost their luster
Welcome back home to live the blues
Daily life has never been easy
Always some sort of pain to endure
Demons breathing down your neck
Silently waiting for another liquid cure

Sitting With Pirates & Thieves

Sitting with pirates & thieves

But you’re wandering about the old oak tree

You know you can never go home

Wishing for a life when you weren’t so free

You sold your precious soul

But there’s nothing left to retrieve

You’ll spend your ending days

Dying with those pirates & thieves

Neglected Rose On These Midnight Streets

woman-1031507.jpg

Neglected rose on these midnight streets
Finding myself detached from all other souls
Close to something which resembles an answer
No need to guide me, I already know the holes
I’ve already left, did you notice I was gone
I return to myself, closing all windows & doors
You may know where I am
But you don’t know what I have in store

Returning To The World

Returning to the world
Finding life left unraveled
A smile never so grand
Home the best place traveled
Warmth of simple comforts
Never trading precious delights
Beauty in these open arms
Darkness eclipsed by light

Ponderosa Pine / Vanilla Latte

business-839788.jpg

Ponderosa pine / vanilla latte
Gravensteins falling from my eyes
New world ideals coming to roost
Spring’s leaves rustle up & die
Nature overcoming this city life
Count a penny twice before you call
She could have been a shining beauty
Left alone with nothing to do but bawl
The mountain stands watch by night
Stoic wagon-wheels to be forever spared
Dealing with relics & antique china
Listening, but never knew you cared
Revisiting vast ideas in the flames
Savor my kiss, for they will be few
(I don’t know) how to talk to single women
You’ll be self-indulgent when you’re through

Most Guys

Most guys

Will tell as many lies

As it takes to get between your thighs

But that’s not my goal

I’m just trying to find something to fill this hole

That has been left in my soul

*this is one of the first poems I can remember writing. I believe it goes back to ’94 or ’95.

I Have A Secret

I have a secret
Scribbling in the margins
The poetry of the opera halls
Burning drinks of gargled sin
A letter to the editor
The words chosen for tonight
The opinions of a fool
Only a pretty girl left to recite
