Too Cautious For That Rabbit Hole

tea-party-1138912.jpg

The slow silent flattery
Worming it’s way into your ear
Unsure of calculated intent
If you should accept it with fear
Or allow it to swell up & be free
Not much left of your personal pride
Life has chipped away at it
Sinking into a cowering stride

Too cautious for that rabbit hole
But you’re better than that
Deep down you truly know

How much effort have you spent
To be contrary & constantly ignore
The world as it whispers lovely words
Snippets of charm floating to the floor
Standing at an arms distance
Not believing yourself to be Alice
Or any of the princesses of yore
Never dreaming of a shining palace

Too cautious for that rabbit hole
But you’re better than that
Deep down you truly know

Never a confidence
Feeling temptations of the weak
They’re just simple words
Hoping to give an outlook a tweak
Not meant to encumber
Or ransack your existence
But you can’t hinder the words
& their slow penetrating insistence

I Didn’t Mean To Get Too Personal

frill-746127.jpg

I didn’t mean to get too personal
I merely noticed your exposed slip
My thoughts took me to uncharted waters
Thinking of us – alone- a subtle skinny dip
An abandoned wedding gown crumpled
The satin too white against your lace
I didn’t know what I was supposed to feel
Though I could see the muted joy in your face
You kicked off your heels & removed your gloves
Walking too close you whispered ‘yes’ to my surprise
I loosened my tie before you took charge
I’ll never forget how you looked with your laughing eyes

The Sun Rises Softly

girl-622534.jpg

The sun rises softly
Wherever you may roam
A silent visage of hope
Even if you never return home
A reassuring countenance
There will always be one thing for sure
Tucking a truth for personal use
I’ll always contain a love that’s pure

Give Me More Of That Of That Golden Perfection

Give me more of that of that golden perfection
Cast off anything not worthy of this glass
I do not care for your rants on responsibility
Do what you want, I know the value of a piece of ass
I find myself conflicted, this is a sullen day
Contradicting my words at every other turn
Personal beliefs & those everlasting tastes
Can I fix myself before I eternally burn
I push aside those apocalyptic thoughts
Look out towards those signs of salvation
Please walk with me Lord, I cannot do this alone
Lead me to surpass this decaying creation

I Used To Be Young & Impulsive

I used to be young & impulsive
Idealistic – crying out for those mistreated
Arrogant, impervious to facts or wisdom
Ready for the status quo to be defeated

Now I’m old & impulsive
Stringing words together at will
Focusing on a more personal battle
Time has removed my desire to kill

I continue to pull within my own skin
Struggles no one can understand or see
Alone to fight these cruel thoughts
The sands fall & I merely wish to be free
