A Clear Path To Happiness

cowboy-2243027.jpg

A clear path to happiness
But where do we go from here
Tired & weary from toilsome tasks
Self loathing; the harbinger of fear
But there’s always the simple life
Cherishing each blessing bestowed
Smiling each morning with gratitude
Embracing & not dreading your load
Taking it up again with the sun
Another day to provide what you reap
Responsibility can be a small miracle
Reflecting the love that you keep

I’m Not Some Hero To Call Upon

IMG_1288.jpg

I’m not some hero to call upon
Just a simple man, wanting to go home
Bracing against these salty winds
Reoccurring themes to this syndrome
I know where all the good stuff is
Needing my love at the end of each day
Counting white caps dancing in the water
There’s nothing complicated in my DNA
This ship slowing with her icy sails
Wishing to return to warmth all the more
Searching for glory towards the True North
But my heart was left with her back on the shore

You’re Spouting Off At The Seams

boy-2578520.jpg

You’re spouting off at the seams
The system melting from the status quo
Another former acolyte on the verge of revolt
The machine of government quotas; all systems go
But is this what we want from our society
I believe their intentional interference is a sin
Let us be, let us live a life peaceful & free
A life where a simple man might still be able to win

The Pressures Of A Creative World

power-731824.jpg

The pressures of a creative world
The mind’s eye reflecting society
Sculpting words to fit this day
My life better when wrapped in piety
But you must choose your own path
No one can tell you what you need to do
Your experiences are solely your own
In the end, your happiness is simply up to you

Over The Soft Meadows

woman-691359.jpg

Over the soft meadows
Dancing in a sun dress
Love amongst the wildflowers
A simple life, but I digress
Spirited away by a charming Prince
With promises of a jeweled crown
She chose aspiration over inspiration
Weighed down, lost, she drowned

The Waves Will Always Kiss The Shore

sailor-671187

The waves will always kiss the shore
But we must continue the fight to be free
My indifference to society is documented
Perhaps we should separate & simply be
But they won’t let me go gently into the goodnight
Always come callin’ – talking about my turn
But I paid my debts with a piece of my soul
I could cry foul, but they’ll never learn

Returning To Simplicity

aptos-296159.jpg

Returning to simplicity
Tossing out these fledgling fates
Stunted growth increasing these days
Hindered by our technological rates
I don’t want to watch my soul wilt
I want to break free & soak up the sunshine
I’m through with this culture of victims
You’ll hear the dial tone & know its mine

Too Cautious For That Rabbit Hole

tea-party-1138912.jpg

The slow silent flattery
Worming it’s way into your ear
Unsure of calculated intent
If you should accept it with fear
Or allow it to swell up & be free
Not much left of your personal pride
Life has chipped away at it
Sinking into a cowering stride

Too cautious for that rabbit hole
But you’re better than that
Deep down you truly know

How much effort have you spent
To be contrary & constantly ignore
The world as it whispers lovely words
Snippets of charm floating to the floor
Standing at an arms distance
Not believing yourself to be Alice
Or any of the princesses of yore
Never dreaming of a shining palace

Too cautious for that rabbit hole
But you’re better than that
Deep down you truly know

Never a confidence
Feeling temptations of the weak
They’re just simple words
Hoping to give an outlook a tweak
Not meant to encumber
Or ransack your existence
But you can’t hinder the words
& their slow penetrating insistence

Waking Up Next To The Woman I Love

clipper-989030.jpg

Waking up next to the woman I love
Morning coffee, time to take Jennings for a walk
Suburban life – an unexpected dream
Watching my beautiful family like a hawk
A simple life stolen from me
Sailing this ocean so I can be released
Living that life only through letters
Freedom will come & I’ll cherish every piece
