Scars & Flaws Mark Our Character

Scars & flaws mark our character
There are no monuments upon the sea
With no footprints in the waves
We cling to adventure in order to be free
But we all too soon grow old
The cold days along the Scottish coast
Searching for the proper port
To be comfortable with our dubious host
These days we’re looking to break even
I feel each of my years in my bones
I embrace my Saint Brendan’s medal
Within the night shift I can quietly atone
Remembering the light within her eyes
Reflecting up into the midnight’s moon
There’s a lot we might misconstrue
We’re stained, but maybe we can learn the tune

I’ve Got My Earbuds In

guy-925532.jpg

I’ve got my earbuds in
I’ve got the music up high
Dancin’ like an idiot
Sensory deprivation – no longer shy
Air guitar shredding tunes
I’m feeling good, cutting this rug
Wobbly knees & popping joints
Eyes closed/goofy look on this mug
But I’ll still give it a go
Silliness my forte – a touch of sass
My own man without regrets
Watch out now, time to move my ass

Revealing Our Secrets

dance-719781.jpg

Revealing our secrets
Like what’s between the cushions
The skeletons come dancin’
Down in the groove: straight ambushin’
Shaking’ their bones in colorful Chucks
With nothin’ to hide in the light of the moon
Stripped of clothing & pretense; we’re all exposed
Together truthfully, finally singin’ the same sweet tune
